Sharing the Gospel

One of the things that I often read or hear from unbelievers or Atheists is their complaints about Christian’s being insisting about their faith. They consider Christians as annoying or irritating because we keep on sharing, approaching or correcting other people’s faith and beliefs. They believe that we all should respect other’s beliefs and Christians should leave them alone with their faith.

So why, of all the religion, Christianity has the practice of approaching people and sharing and spreading their faith? Why can’t Christians leave people with other religion alone and let’s all live in harmony and peace?

Being a Christian myself, I should know the answer. And the answer can be read in the Bible in the book of Mark 16:15 – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. This phrase is a command directly from our Lord Jesus Christ so this is very important to us. And there’s a following phrase that read: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
So why there is a need to spread and preach the gospel to every creature? You might think that we are entitled to believe what we want. There are 3 answers for this question.

1. Because there is damnation that awaits all souls. As a Christian and a believer of a true God, the future and humanity’s fate is revealed to us. We also know the root of our life here on earth. So as a fellow human being and creation of God, we are concerned with the fate of the rest of humanity. We as Christians, already received the grace of salvation and saved from damnation and destined to live eternally, while the rest of the world, who do not believe in Jesus Christ, will suffer the torment in hell for eternal.

Since we are now saved and knows the future, we would like to share the Good News to the world. The good news is that there is an escape from eternal damnation which is through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s put it this way, if you have the gift of knowing the future and you know that your loved one is in danger, would you not seek a way to tell him or warn him of this danger and tell him how to avoid this danger, even if it will cost a doubt in your sanity?

2. We know we are the truth. Okay, so this will offend some of you. But I have another question: If you believe your faith is the true religion, don’t you have the desire to share it to us? Don’t you have the excitement to share or tell others that you finally know the truth? Aren’t you concern that others are doing the wrong thing and heading the wrong way? Don’t you love your fellow souls that you don’t care to share them the truth?

Jesus commands Christians that we should love one another (John 13:14, John 15:12, John 15:17, Romans 13:8, Galatians 5:13, Ephesians 4:2, 1 Thessalonians 3:12, 1 Thessalonians 4:9). I learned once from our Pastor that if there is a message that is repeatedly stated in the Bible, this means that the message or a thought was given emphasize and very important. And from the verses given, the message of loving one another is given much emphasize in the Bible. (This is also one of the teachings in the Bible and Christianity that other religion cannot contest, Love one another.)

And since we love fellow people, we are concerned that other people should also know the truth and have the right to know the truth. Though sometimes, truth hurts, but we still deserve to know the truth. But sometimes it is sad that a lot of people choose tradition and their flesh instead of the truth. But still we continue to share the truth and the good news because the Bible says God wants everyone to be saved (The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. – 2 Peter 3:9).

Knowing the truth also comes with correcting the false. We share the truth to correct any mistakes on worshiping, the wrong notion about God, and many others. Christianity is not like science that upon discovering the truth, will publish it, and will not care if you’ll believe it or not (they will just fail you on school tests). Christianity’s truth is much more important. It will cost you your soul. And again, the sad thing about man is that he doesn’t like to be corrected.

3. A Man’s soul is very important. Our Lord Jesus Himself says that, For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” – Matthew 16:26, For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” – Mark 8:36, and His illustration of how the heaven rejoice in the repentance of a lost soul on the book of Luke, the whole chapter 15. Again, an emphasis in the Bible, the worth of a Man’s soul. Not only Christians are concerned with humanity’s fate, but we also like to please God by drawing men near to Him.

4. Your Blood In My Hands. In the end, Christians will be held accountable in the lost souls. God will make us responsible for the lost souls in the end it is because despite of knowing that truth, we didn’t warned other souls on their fate. After receiving the grace of salvation, we have the responsibility to reach the others and warn them on their damnation and share the grace of salvation.

There may still be other reasons on why Christians insisting to share their faith that I had not listed. You are very much welcome to make an addition. I hope this post had made some clarification that Christians a group of we-are-right-you-are-wrong people. We are just concerned with other souls and very much excited to share our discovery.

And may I add that I had mentioned in this post how we are important to God. There is no other religion that teaches how important a Man to God is. Aren’t we glad to know that we are important and loved by God so much that it cost the life of His Son? Shouldn’t we love back someone that loves us? Are we going to reject this teaching?
