Envy

How Does Envying Relates To Immaturity For A Christian?

I understand that because of their immaturity, kids act unreasonable most of the times. But I just realized that I’m no different from my toddler.

When my two-year-old son heard a familiar song outside our house, he immediately wanted to go out and see it. The sound was a music video for kids that his friend (fellow toddler) was watching on a mobile phone.

We have the exact video that my son have already watched a hundred times on our big screen TV. But still, he cried and wanted to go out to watch it with his friend on an obviously smaller screen of the mobile phone.

It may seem ridiculous but understandable because of his age. But I learned that maturity sometimes has nothing to do with age, especially with spiritual maturity.

Yoda Envy

Envy is all in the mind.

There are times that I envy people who seems to have more than I do, especially in material things. But if I’m going to look closely and learn to appreciate what I already have, I will realize that I don’t need the things that they have. In fact, I might discover that I may have more than they do.

This is true as a Christian. Why would I ever want more if I already have God and Jesus, the creators of everything (Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 45:12, Jeremiah 4:23, John 1:3, Colossians 1:16, )? I have a special relationship with them that others don’t have (John 1:12). I receive blessings from them that money can’t buy (Jeremiah 17:7-8, Numbers 6:24-26, Proverbs 16:3, and so on. I could give Bible verses about blessings the whole day); a peaceful living and a peace of mind provided by the Holy Spirit. And I received a gift that can never be found anywhere, except through the Lord Jesus Christ which is salvation (John 3:16).

I have a bright eternity ahead of me. This includes a perfect body (Philippians 3:21), perfect life (Revelation 21:4), a mansion in heaven (John 14:2) , and my most important of all, a fellowship with God.

If I will always remember that I have Jesus in my life, I will never be envy again. Because I believe that if you have Him, you have everything.

Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
