I want to share about one of my favorite books from my all-time favorite author C. S. Lewis. The book The Screwtape Letters is one of the most exciting books that I have read. From the moment I started to read the first sentences, I can’t manage to close the book anymore and tempted to finish it in one reading.
The Screwtape Letters awakened my curiosity about the devil and his works. The story is about a senior devil, Screwtape, who instruct a junior devil, Wormwood, his nephew, on how to misguide his newly converted Christian human.
As you read through the book, you will discover lots of strategies used by the devil. You will be surprised on how a simple and ordinary thing can be used by the devil for your distraction. You will have a magnificent view of the devil’s craftsmanship and you’ll realize that we are not safe, not even inside the church.
On the book’s first pages stated a reminder to the readers from the author himself that says “Readers are advised to remember that the devil is a liar. Not everything that Screwtape says should be assumed to be true even from his own angle.” This reminder was included because as you read along, you could be able to relate yourself to the devil and may absorb his ‘truth’. You might get tantalized by his seemingly smart words and forget that what you are reading is the opposite of the Truth.
They say that, one of the best ways to defeat your enemy is to know them and their tactics. This method is used by the military and in sports. They carefully spy and study the enemy and their moves in order to anticipate their battle and game strategies. With this idea, The Screwtape Letters is a one great book to read, of course, next to the Bible.
