Carpentry

Are you experiencing a renovation?

We just had our home renovation. Actually, it’s more of a home extension. We added a small room and a porch in front of our house.

While in the middle of construction, it reminded me again of how hard it is having a home makeover. You see and feel dust, smell gas and hear loud unpleasant noises. Our things are either out of places and/or covered with plastics to cover from dusts.

And the kids. The poor kids are either contained in the room all day for several days or they have to sleep over to friends’ house.

But we didn’t regretted any of these.

The house was messed up. We were tired. But it’s all in the plan.

Actually, when we were planning for the renovation, we were looking at the result, not on the process. Although the process was anticipated, we were more excited about the result.

While we were having a construction, I realized that it’s no different from life’s hardships.

Sometimes our hardships are the process of something great to come. We experience hardships because God is working in our life, turning us into someone that He wants us to become.

Not all hardships are the results. Sometimes, it is a process.

Sometimes we have to lose something or someone so that it will be replaced with something or someone better.

It is rebuilding.

It is also no different from what our Lord Jesus Christ has experienced.

Although He knew what He have to go through, He was still determined to go through it. He was looking at the result. He was looking forward to spend the eternity with us that He’s willing to experience that hardships in the cross.

If we only learn to trust Jesus, the carpenter, we will see our hardships as renovations. And we will not be moved (Psalm 16:8).

Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny – C.S. Lewis

Bible verses about hardships:

2 Timothy 4:5 – “But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”

John 16:33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Romans 5:3-5 – “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – “And he said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

James 1:2-4 – “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Psalm 23:1-6  – “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.  He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

1 John 4:4  Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Romans 8:18“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

James 1:12“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
