There are some circumstances or events that can be considered as a stain in Christianity. These circumstances are commonly used by unbelievers against Christians. They can be as big as the Inquisition that happened on the early centuries, or as simple as being unforgiving.
If Christianity is the true religion from God, how can Christians do such sin, killings, etc.? Is this a sign of a false religion or hypocrisy? If Christianity is true and these things are done by Christians, are there any explanations for this?
As Christians, we are repeatedly taught in our churches that unbelievers are watching our every action. Our actions can either be a blessing and a good witness to them or a proof that they right; Christianity is nothing but a dogma.
There is one time that I read a comment from a guy in a forum which says that Christianity killed more people than any event in the history. While the accusation is true, it must be cleared which type of “Christian” group is involved. Is this the church which Jesus Christ built?
The forum guy must be talking about the Catholic Inquisition. The Inquisition is the capturing, torturing and killing of people who have beliefs other than “Christian” or Catholic beliefs. The killing includes beheading and burning alive.
I want to make a point that Christianity and Catholicism are whole different entities. Christianity follows no other than Jesus while Catholicism follows the Roman authority. Rome adopted Christianity and declared that they are Christian but they barely follow Christian doctrines, but instead, they contradict it.
Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men. – Isaiah 29:13
Carrying a guitar doesn’t make me a guitarist and waving a US flag doesn’t make me an American. As an American, you have to follow American rules and to be called a guitarist; you must at least know how to play basic guitar tunes.
The inquisitions happened at France, Rome, Spain and Portugal. If you notice the similarity of these countries, they are all Catholic countries. Rome, Spain and Portugal has the reputation of violently grabbing lands from the indigenous people in the early centuries. Along their land-grabbing acts, they also used their might to force local people to accept “Christianity”. As a Filipino, I learned how Spanish colonials and friars used religion to manipulate and abuse the locals.
In addition, not only is Catholicism can’t be identified as Christian, Christianity or early Christians themselves suffer from the punishment of Rome. If Atheists or non-believers know the story of the inquisition and uses it against Christianity, you must also be aware of the persecutions of people who are caught with a Bible or identified as Christians. Rome, the city which they recognize as the leader of “Christianity”, tortures and kills Christians who are openly criticizing their pagan beliefs. Early Christians were tortured, crucified, crucified upside down, skinned alive, burned alive, beheaded, fed alive in lions, name it; Rome did it.
Jesus Christ was also crucified by the Roman government. Although it was persuaded by fellow Jewish, Rome has no recognition of Jesus, and if it does, Rome will consider Him as rebel to the Roman government, not even a god.
So, is it fair for Christ Himself to be blamed for the crime of the same people who murdered Him? He already took the blame for the sin of the world.
I also read an author’s comment in a newspaper to an event where Christians violently reacted against Muslims. He noted that Christians must act like Buddhists who are peaceful. Again, another issue to answer. And another question is; why does Christianity involves in a lot of controversies compare to other religions? I will try to answer this in my next post. I will also discuss more about the differences between Catholicism and Christianity.
Here are Bible verses that talks about false religion:
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. – 2 Corinthians 11:14
For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. – 1 Corinthians 14:33
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. – Genesis 3:1
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. – 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. – Mark 13:22
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. – Matthew 7:15-16
